Science is a never-ending pursuit of knowledge. It’s about asking questions and finding answers, and about discovering new things and making sense of the world around us.

It’s important for everyone to understand science because it affects our lives, health, economy, environment…everything! But not everyone feels that way about science. Maybe you are one of them?

Why People May Not Like Science

It’s easy to think that science is just too difficult for some people to understand and they prefer things in simpler terms. Maybe they’re not interested because it doesn’t seem relevant to their lives or they don’t see how it will help them in any way. It can be intimidating, especially if you don’t have a good example of what science is really about.

Science can seem very detached from reality, with all its formulas and statistics and rules. It’s also associated with school, where you are taught to memorize facts without thinking about why things work that way or how it affects the bigger picture.

How to Build a Passion for Science

It’s easy to get discouraged, but there are many examples of people who fell in love with science and found a place for it in their lives. It’s important to start early, by having fun with kids’ experiments that show how cool science is.

Find your local science museum or natural history museum and make plans to visit, if you can. You could even volunteer your time there to get a behind-the-scenes look at how they operate and the kind of work that goes into their programs. Believe it or not, adults also love to learn new things too!

If you’re interested in animals, check out a local aquarium or zoo. Not only will you learn more about the animals there, but you’ll also be able to see science at work, such as how they care for them and conduct research.

You could even consider a career in animal conservation or zoology and help save these precious resources.

Science is cool! It takes time and effort, yes, but in the end—is there anything worthwhile that isn’t difficult at first?
